    COATD 2025 Kickoff Meeting

Join us for a special event where we will inaugurate our new board members and kick off the year with impactful learning led by Alex Lefeld.

    Light refreshments will be provided.

Building Trust Through Improv: Mastering Psychological Safety

What if your team could innovate faster, collaborate more creatively, and adapt to any challenge with confidence? It’s possible—and it starts with two key ingredients: psychological safety and improvisation.

In this interactive workshop, we’ll show you how these two concepts work together to transform the way your team collaborates. You’ll learn how to create a culture where people feel empowered to take risks, share bold ideas, and improvise when the unexpected hits. Because here’s the truth: when your team feels safe enough to fail, they can succeed in ways you never imagined.

This session is designed to give you hands-on tools to build trust, spark creativity, and unlock your team’s full potential. Through practical exercises and real-world examples, we’ll explore how improvisation fosters innovation, and how psychological safety is the secret sauce behind it all. Come ready to participate, laugh, and walk away with actionable strategies that you can apply immediately to drive results and boost performance.

Ready to break free from the predictable? Join us and learn how to turn risk into reward!

     About Alex Lefeld:

Alex is an improv performer and educator with over 15 years of experience in the art form. He earned his degree in Theatre from Ohio State University and found after he graduated that his improvisation skills honed throughout his collegiate career allowed him to have great success in the world of Learning and Development. For over 10 years, Alex has had the opportunity to design and facilitate Business Development and Improv Workshop experiences for companies around the world to help them build better teams, participate in authentic communication and grow thriving, productive businesses. What Defines a Leader?

This question isn’t about the various programs, development activities, or competencies involved in leadership training. Instead, it focuses on the intrinsic qualities that make someone a leader.
Anne Duvaux references Daniel Goleman’s work, highlighting emotional intelligence as a key factor.

In her article, How to Fix Leadership Development Programs for Actual Results Duvaux explores the aspects of leadership that cannot be taught but must be experienced. She discusses how leadership development professionals can create opportunities for leaders
to develop emotional intelligence within their organizations.

    Limited Leadership Leaps

ATD Magazine Article, Nov. 1, 2024: Limit Leadership Leaps

Every organization needs to find the best methods for developing both new and existing leaders. When making data-driven decisions about who should enter the leadership pipeline, it’s true that some individuals may be chosen who are either not ready or not interested. Instead of making significant changes for potential leaders, it might be beneficial to consider smaller, incremental steps. The linked article introduces several ways to incorporate this strategic preparation.

Even if you haven’t been a formal or paid coach, or have had limited training, your insights and experiences are valuable to this discussion. OCTOBER 2

TD Magazine Article Follow Your Compass

When we hear the word “strategy,” many of us might roll our eyes, anticipating a tedious conversation. Even those who are intrigued often find strategy to be abstract and impersonal, like wearing clothes chosen by someone else. Seth Godin aims to revitalize this concept. He starts by redefining strategy not as a fixed map, but as a compass that guides us from today towards a better future. This perspective is quite inspiring.

The review linked will prompt us to rethink strategy, and some might be encouraged to explore Godin’s book further. This topic is particularly relevant now, as many organizations are deep into their Q4 planning.
