Dear Central Ohio ATD members,

If you were to ask the vast majority of us how we ended up in Learning and Development (L&D), you'd likely hear that no one has the same background. The thrill and challenge of L&D is that it is interdisciplinary and we all have different skills that we bring to the work we do.  We want COATD to be your professional home and we have many exciting changes headed your way in 2019:

  • Networking for a cause – Last year we brought back networking only events that were successful.  This year, we plan on continuing our networking events, with a twist.  This year we kick off a campaign known as COATD loves Columbus.  This campaign allows our members and guests to be a part of an ongoing service project where we provide help to organizations in need of more resources.  This includes (but not limited to) canned food drives, clothing drives, and the possibilty of partnering with other Central Ohio professional organizations to give back. Look for more information about this program to come.
  • Creating opportunities for emerging professionals – There are so many ways that people "fall" into this profession.  We want to recognize the emerging professional.  We define this as someone new to L&D and/or students. This year, COATD will host the first annual Emerging Professionals Showcase.  This program will give students and emerging professionals an opportunity to share their work and gain valuable presentation experience.  It also allows our members to see what research is happening in L&D.
  • Membership meetings are back- We have brought membership meetings back for each quarter in 2019.  These membership meetings will allow you to network with other members. Right now, the programming is fairly open so if you have any ideas you'd like to see at these membership meetings, please let me know.
  • Expanding SIGs (Special Interest Groups) – Our 2018 Learning Technologies and Design Day conference was successful in huge part to the active engagement of our Technology SIG.  Our SIGs (Technology and Organizational Development) provide members a way to engage with each other around a topic that is important to them.  We are looking to expand our SIGs this year and will gather data through our annual chapter member's survey to see what topics you are most interested in.

Above all, this is YOUR chapter so if you have any feedback or ideas, please let me know.  I look forward to learning with you this year.

Warm regards,

Cara North

President 2019
