Your role as a learning practitioner is evolving rapidly. L&D is no longer just about training. It’s increasingly seen as, and expected to become, a proactive partner for improving operational performance. Your new reality is to align your learning efforts and initiatives to fit this performance expectation and to demonstrate results.

Leading companies, such as Tesla, Amazon, Toyota, and Starbucks to name a few, sees themselves as learning organizations. But more than just embracing this position, these companies leverage integrative learning strategies to ensure it contributes to their fundamental strategic value and precisely address the primary operational activities to fulfill the value. It’s all about working within your organization’s performance framework identifying relevant performance linkages to the organization’s strategic objective, its mission.

Based upon Ajay M. Pangarkar’s pioneering book, “The Trainer’s Balanced Scorecard”, this master class will engage you to transition your learning initiatives into a performance-focused effort contributing to primary operational and business expectations. Working within the most well-known and applied framework, the balanced scorecard, you will discover how the ‘learning & Growth’ perspective plays a central role to achieving business objectives.

    In this session you will:

    • Address leadership expectations for strategy execution
    • Align learning to address operational and strategic objectives
    • Map tangible learning metrics to operations within the balanced scorecard
    • Communicate performance results from learning to management

Participants work through a case study of a fictitious company completing the learning and growth component of a “balanced scorecard,” ensuring their learning strategy completely aligns with the existing performance metrics and strategic objectives.

    About our speaker:

Ajay is a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) and Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP). Ajay, with partner Teresa Kirkwood, published three books with their recent titled, “The Trainers Balanced Scorecard: A Complete Resource for Linking Learning and Growth to Organizational Strategy" (Wiley). Under his leadership, Training Magazine awarded CentralKnowledge their Technology in Action, Learning Management Project of the year for success with Apple.  He is an award-winning writer winning the 2014 and 2015 prestigious TrainingIndustry.com Readership and Editors’ Award. Elearning Magazine recognized Ajay their 2016 Learning Champion and Thought-leader. The World Training Development Congress named Ajay their 2017 “Distinguished Trainer”. He develops courses LinkedIn Learning and regularly guests on Montreal’s #1 Talk Radio show discussing workforce performance issues.

This session is based upon Ajay M. Pangarkar’s book:

    Our Presenter

Danny James is passionate about employee development and engagement.  He finds himself helping organizations strategize around what makes their most important asset tick, "their people".  He has a background in the military where he spent most of his time training soldiers while stateside before heading overseas.  When his time in the military came to an end he knew his transition had to incorporate training and developing people.  He now speaks with organizations daily to help make sure that their employees are feeling connected with one another and their managers, aligned with the vision and direction of the organization, and that their people have areas to grow.

We learn the most at our growth edge.  However, edges can feel risky - an our mind and body respond accordingly.  So how can we create learning environments where ambiguity and risk become part of the norm?  The solution is a culture of psychological safety.  When individuals feel safe, then real growth become possible. In this talk, learn about the research behind psychological safety, and gain tools for immediate implementation in your own work community.
