Instructional Designer - Midmark

The Instructional Designer project manages, designs, and develops training and education solutions: instructor led, eLearning, micro-learning, video, print, job aids and other learning assets.  Works closely with Business Unit Professional Education Managers, subject matter experts and learners to conduct needs analysis and make performance improvement recommendations and develop learning/performance support solutions. Applies current industry best practices as well as internal standards to ensure quality and effectiveness of learning deliverables.  Has experience implementing non-traditional learning trends such as social learning, experiential learning and AR/VR.

This can be a remote position.



  • Understand and adhere to a student-centered and scenario-based philosophy of learning where the student learning experience is the focal point of the educational delivery.
  • Work with clients, subject matter experts, and learners to specify gaps, needs, and desired outcomes.
  • Recommend, design, and develop creative learning solutions that include, but are not limited to, classroom, eLearning, micro-learning, virtual learning (VILT), gamification, AR/VR, and blended learning solutions.
  • Support an effective instructional strategy, learning plan, and develop design documents for each learning solution based upon learning objectives and the characteristics of a given target audience.
  • Write and edit storyboards, interactive/video scripts, trainer notes, and other learning documentation to include participant/leader guides, quizzes, and assessments.
  • Help keep us current with training and education industry best practices.
  • Remain current on technology and innovations in online learning initiatives and trends to provide ideas and recommendations.
  • Develop visual design elements.
  • Push the boundaries of traditional training and education deliverables and techniques to implement innovative and cutting edge solutions.


  • May project manage outside instructional designers and production vendors.
  • Work with LMS Admin to upload and assign courses.  Provide backup to primary LMS Admin.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.


  • Bachelors or Masters degree in instructional design, instructional systems technology or similar.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in instructional design or curriculum development.
  • Experience in a medical device or dental company, collaborating with medical professionals or organizational development is preferred.
  • Has served as project manager for education deliverables.


  • Well versed in current industry training standards and practices, research, and learning theory (ADDIE, Kirkpatrick, SCORM, Agile, etc.).
  • Solid knowledge of course development software (e.g. Articulate 360, RISE, Captivate, Vyond, Simpleshow, and other rapid development tools) and at least one Learning Management System.
  • Visual design skills (Photoshop, Illustrator) and ability to storyboard.
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts, and quickly grasp range of complex business and clinical issues.
  • Ability to thrive in an environment of fast paced change and ambiguity.
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated innovative critical thinking.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders, subject matter experts and team members, attention to detail, superior organizational skills, and accountability.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements, prioritize, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to project manage their work.
  • Experience creating training deliverables within a SCRUM Sprint framework is an added plus.
